Oh no!
Look what we found at one of our restoration sites!
Its Serrated Tussock (Nassella trichotoma).

A really nasty, 'State Prohibited' weed of 'national significance'.

This discovery is a new find for the area and details have been given to gov. bio-security staff who will now see it listed in national database.
The plant has now been removed and will be incinerated. We will also keep a close eye on the site to make sure it never comes back!

Lucky our staff have a keen eye for such things and a good demonstration of yet another benefit of the work we do!

Red Gum Grassy Woodland once covered the Gippsland Plains.

It was this ecosystem that allowed graziers to so easily make a go of it when they arrived......
Unknowingly or otherwise degrading and removing these ecosystems as they went....
Ecosystems that had been maintained and managed for generations....
Fast forward 200 odd years and there is almost none left (3%)..which is sad....
But..... almost none is still some(!) and these special areas now represent a significant part of our countries biological and cultural history and an amazing opportunity to celebrate, look after and restore what still remains.

This is our challenge.

We need all the help we can get.

Visit www.gippslandplaincmn.org.au to find out how!

Fernbank reserve.
Previously managed as a sport recreation area (footy and cricket) then as a cow paddock, but not for some years. Now host and home an array of rare and threatened grassland species but also not with out need of some care.
African Love Grass (ALG) weed just starting to appear too.
Stay tuned for how to get involved.... #NLP #community # nrm #grassland #landcare #gppslandplans #conservation

Calling all Red gum remnant owners in West Gippsland please read the attached or pass it on to someone who does. Its a fantastic opportunity to preserve a critically endangered vegetation type. If you have any question or need an Expression of interest form please PM me. Andy
